Welcome to RB Web Design and Programming Solutions.
This is the online portfolio for Roger Brook, here you will find several examples of my programming and design work.
A little about me. After leaving university I started off my career as a chemist, working for a small corporation that concentrated on agro-chemical and pharmaceutical intermediates. 12 years later the company that I worked for hit upon hard times and I was made redundant in 2000.
I decided to take the opportunity to further my studies and move in the direction of an IT based career. A Masters Degree in Chemoinformatics appeared to be the perfect bridging solution, being both chemistry and IT based. Here I discovered my first object orientated language, Java; database design using SSADM principles.
After finishing my MSc, I needed a quick start in a new career and a lot of my friends were involved in industrial rope access (building maintenance involving abseil techniques). I have worked in the abseil trade now for seven or so years.
I have maintained my interest in programming by producing various websites and small projects. My main areas of interest are ASP.NET C# and Flash, ActionScript 3.0. My IDE's of choice are Visual Studio 2010 and Flash Builder 4 respectively. More recently I have adopted the use of MVC design patterns, primarily MVC2.0 for .NET projects and PureMVC for ActionScript (Flash / AIR). One of my more recent projects uses both .NET and AIR (Flash for desktops) and involves WebOrb to bring .NET data into my AIR application.
As a natural extension to my web designing activities I have also developed skills in search engine optimisation (SEO). Most of my sites rank within the first ten results on Google for their respective most desirable search phrases. More recently I have taken on purely SEO projects where the website is either already existing or is being developed by others.
